FAQs
*What is the difference between a salve and a balm? The main difference between a salve and a balm lies in their consistency and application. Salves tend to be thinner and more spreadable, making them better for healing and soothing skin conditions. Balms, on the other hand, are thicker and waxy, often used for moisturizing and creating a protective barrier on the skin.
*I see specks in my salves and balms. Is that dirt? No! All herbs are clean, when entering the making phase. These are little specks of herbs (even after double filtered) that are left behind. When they steep in the oil, they can break down. There are not enough that it will be left on your skin. Just think of them as little powerhouses that are still infusing your product!
*How do I store my product? Salves and balms should be kept in a cool, dark place. I know you might be tempted to keep one in your car for on the go but during high heat times, such as the summer, it can effect the consistency of your product, making it much thinner or runny.
*What is the shelf life of the balms and salves? You will get about 1-2 years (if stored properly) out of your products. Benefiting herbal properties do though decrease over time.
*How much do I use? These balms/salves are rich, infused, oil based. A little goes a long way, so start with a very small amount and work up. It is up to you on how often you would like to reapply, although suggestions are on each product.
*Are these safe for babies? Babies have very sensitive skin and should avoid all products containing eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, camphor and menthol.
After applying a balm/salve with menthol in it, make sure to wash hands to avoid menthol contact with eyes. Menthol products not intended for babies.
